INTERFAX CENTRAL EUROPE - Pannonplast Polifin, the renewable energy unit of Hungarian listed holding group Pannonplast, has signed a cooperation agreement with the southern city of Pecs to utilize geothermal power for heating and electricity production, state news agency MTI reported Thursday.

Expanding Into Wind Energy (New York Times: Sat, 05 Jan) Scottish and Southern Energy, a British utility, agreed to buy the Irish wind farm operator Airtricity for 1.83 billion euros ($2.7 billion) in cash to add to its production of renewable energy. In the deal, Scottish and Southern said it would also take over 375 million euros of debt.

Starbase Robins Robots (FOX 24 Macon: Sun, 06 Jan) Starbase Robins hosted the third annual Lego League Robotics Tournament Saturday at the Museum of Aviation. This year's theme was renewable energy. Teams from across the state built robots that could complete such tasks as moving hydro dams and placing solar panels on roof tops.
